The Lake Isle of Innisfree
I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,
And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made:
Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honey-bee;
And live alone in the bee-loud glade.
And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow,
Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings;
There midnight's all a glimmer, and noon a purple glow,
And evening full of the linnet's wings.
I will arise and go now, for always night and day
I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore;
While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements grey,
I hear it in the deep heart's core.
Why do we have to leave Innisfree?
ReplyDeleteI think we should just stay there and never leave for the cities again.
Let's stay in the wild Innisfree!!!
We are here will post comment later today Gilly and keith
ReplyDeleteIn my heart there lies a special place --like the Lake Isle of Innisfree.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I go there alone and sometimes I am there with someone I love.
I have the power to go there whenever I chose to lie on the warm damp moss or turn my face up to the sparkling leaves.
No one can take this place from me.
There is no need to set my foot upon that beautiful ground or hold deed and title in my name.
No, my heart is free to fly there when it is heavy. No one can take this place from me-- it is mine forever.
This poem made me think of a picture hanging in my office at work. It depicts a lake with a rocky shore. There is a canvas tent by the water's edge. A canoe is resting quietly among the shore reeds. The camp's fire is emitting warm yellow flames. The full moon illuminates the campsite and casts a beam of light on the lake, which makes the water's surface full of sparkles.
ReplyDeleteWhen my eyes connect with this picture, I usually get a good feeling and am reminded of what makes me truly happy.
Love your comments Gilly. So happy to have gotten to share a moment in your special place. Thank you for taking me there. I can see us sitting there in the waving wheat watching the doggies run and jump. Talking from our hearts with smiles and kindness. Unforgettable.
ReplyDeleteAmanda: Yes, let's never leave!!!!! Reminds me of the "fine thyme" we had at Engineer Lake. Let's be sure to take the doggies though!
Dearest Mish: It makes my heart happy to learn how deeply nature touches your soul. Thank you for letting me share these wonders with you.
I am living the life at Innisfree..when I step out on my porch in the morning the peace drops slowly and gently all around me. As I walk down the path through my woods I am enveloped by silence, or sometimes by the singing of birds or waves lapping at the shore. As I near home I smell the welcome smoke of a wood fire in my stove and it leads me home to my haven, my peace, my life at Innisfree. I am a very lucky woman, indeed.
ReplyDeleteEllen: You are so right. You DO live in Innisfree! Your cabin and the lake and your woods is so special--but only so through your hard work. Alot more work than 9 bean rows. Even the honeybee hive is the plans. Hey, have seen any linnets out there lately?
